Cooper-Molera Historic Garden
Cooper Historic garden and adobe are located on a 2.4 acre site in the very heart of downtown Monterey, and are part of Monterey State Historic Park. The garden is a re-creation of one which Captain John Rogers Cooper, an immigrant American ship captain, and his wife, Encarnacion Vallejo, could have had. The adobe was built about 1830 and enlarged during the 1850s. The property was fully restored to its present condition during the 1980s.
The gardens are a blend of traditional plants and nineteenth century cultivars available in California before 1865 and suitable to our soil and climate. These historically maintained gardens are available for exploration by the public every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Behind the adobe walls are barns, vegetable, herb, ornamental and fruit tree gardens.
Entrance is through Cooper Museum Store, at the corner of Munras, Polk and Alvarado St. There is no fee but donations are encouraged.
